Bespoke flower girl dresses Surrey with butterflies

Alice commissioned three fairytale bespoke flower girl dresses, Surrey.

Official Wedding pictures by www.laurencephotography.com

I designed the dresses each with a simple bodice in silver silk satin and layered skirts in grey and white chiffon over gathered tulle. The skirt layers were cut and graduated in petals with tiny purple and white organza butterflies sewn with their wings left to flutter as the girls moved. I embellished the neckline and waistline of each dress with hand applied Swarovski diamante stones to echo the bride’s own dress. I wanted the dresses to be truly unique so I included shaped necklines and chiffon shoulder frills.

Details of hand applied diamante stones on shaped neckline and waist on the bespoke flower girl dresses surrey. This beading took me 2.5 hours per dress and used Swarovski stones.

I layered the butterflies with purple and white edged wings and then highlighted with silver seed-bead bodies. Their wings were left loose to flutter as the girls moved. I sewed the butterflies to each dress in a flock, to look as though they had just landed on the girls.

The steamed dresses, each on their own pretty pink padded hanger, await collection ready for the big day.

I also made the bride’s dress and dresses for her two adult bridesmaids. As we designed Alice’s wedding dress in layers of both white and pale ivory we did the same for the flower girl dresses. You can see that the tulle beneath the chiffon layers is a brighter white colour.

This set of flower girl dresses, that I made for Catherine’s wedding, also have hand sewn decoration in the form of silk kanzashi flowers

I love it when a bride runs, not walks, to my shop, ready for their bespoke journey to begin!

Brides who want unconventional, whilst also looking for a wedding dress that's elegantly couture, always manage to find me.

No idea too unusual or dramatic. No design too ambitious. Bring on the whimsy!

Here is a selection of some of the techniques I use to create a bespoke wedding dress. Each dress will combine a different set of the skills I have acquired over my 20 years of professional sewing, like puzzles put together from the same pieces each creating a different finished picture!

These include
pattern cutting,
machine sewing,
pressing,
draping and lace work,
cartridge pleating,
inserting eyelets for a lace up back,
'fussy-cutting' lace for applique,
hand beading,
making and sewing on matching cover buttons

....and so many more!
Just tell me someone else can relate 🙃
we can be lil prawns together 🦐
