Elopement Wedding Dress For Mature Bride

pretty made to measure elopement wedding dress older mature bride

I created an elopement wedding dress for this stunning mature bride, made in pale peachy pink silk satin with incredible beaded and applique tulle overlay. Silk chiffon flowers with bold colour print, pearls and glass beads fade from neckline to hem.โ

The shape was simple and flattering, a column dress with round neckline, cap sleeves and puddle train. I hinted at the waistline with a line of tiny beads and we included a dipped back neckline to show off her beautiful skin.โ

This client was one of those most rare and wonderful creatures in the wedding industry โ€“ a repeat customer. She first came to me for help with her daughterโ€™s wedding outfit. When her own wedding plans became reality I was flattered that she thought of me again.โ

This wedding was featured on English Wedding blog โ€“ have a read if you want to learn more about the details of the day.

โ€œFelicity, I could just burst with excitement. I canโ€™t believe I have the most beautiful gown in the worldโ€ฆTHANK YOU!โ€โ

Knowing that my bride is enjoying her wedding day wearing a gown she loves makes my heart sing every time.โ

Making an Elopement Wedding Dress for a Mature Bride

At the beginning of this design process, we started with one set of designs. We got as far as the โ€˜toileโ€™ (practice run) but wedding plans were deferred (eugh, covid). With extra time on her hands, the bride researched ideas more and changed her mind on the style she wanted.

So together we came up with a new design. I made a new toile and in July, as restrictions eased, we finally got to meet for in-person fittings and powered through to the September wedding date.โ  That didnโ€™t give me a huge amount of time, but I thrive on a deadline, and everything was more than ready by the time the big day came around.

Hereโ€™s the finished dress on the stand, before the bride came to pick it up. Isnโ€™t that 3D floral fabric absolutely beautiful?

โ€œYou were such an amazing part of the planning and obviously the day. I canโ€™t bare to put my dress away. Itโ€™s still hanging in its bag in our room.โ€

I think itโ€™s the little details that make all the difference. When it came to finishing this dress, I felt that the look couldnโ€™t be complete without adding some of the lace from the dress onto the shoes. I made sure the placement of flowers worked with the shape of the shoes to create a visually pleasing flow. After pinning and re-pinning a few times, I was happy and sewed them on, adding a few pearls as well.โ

The final touch was a sweet little drawstring bag that I also made to match the dress and shoes.

Working with this bride was as much fun as her incredible wedding photos imply. Although we had to turn around within a matter of weeks, it was an honour to be able to provide her bespoke gown for her special day.โ  Iโ€™m so glad she decided to go ahead with the wedding despite what the world had thrown at us during those dark days of covid.

This Bridgerton-inspired wedding dress is so versatile!

Of course, underneath everything there first needs to be the proper shapewear to give that Regency pillar silhouette, in the form of stays and a petticoat.
Then along comes this beautiful white and gold duchess satin dress.
And this is where the fun begins...

I created some many different accessories and options for this outfit:

You can add something deeply dramatic, with a period-accurate presentation train. This one is super long and gilded in gold lace.
Or you could go for some detachable puff sleeves, finished with an ornate pearl trim.
Then there's the bow, which can be added on top of the train, or just straight onto the dress, with the long sash-tends working as a sort of mini train.

And of course, the final, and most essential accessory for a look like this: fun, whimsy and a love for the dramatic. It also helps if you're obsessed with this current season of Bridgerton, of course...

Which Bridgerton character can you imagine wearing this bridal look?

If you think this might be the dress for you, it's currently for sale on my Etsy page (๐Ÿ”— in bio) - it's heavily discounted compared to my usual bespoke orders, so claim her whilst you can!
