Purple Halloween Wedding Dress in Las Vegas

las vegas wedding bride and groom white and purple

Gorgeous Ellie got married in Las Vegas on Halloween. I made her purple Halloween wedding dress with a wonderful blend of 1950’s shape, modern styling and subtle Halloween Vixen detail.

Halloween, Las Vegas Style

I made the strapless boned bodice and ruched overskirt out of winter white duchess satin. The underskirt has shot black/purple taffeta over layers and layers of white net trimmed with orange satin ribbons for a pop of halloween colour. The white satin was spangled all over with hand sewn swarovski crystals. And the purple layer had a hand beaded spider web with more crystal sparkles.

During the making process Ellie decided the roses in the original design were unnecessary. However, the cobweb detailing stayed in. it was integral to our Halloween theme.

I hooked up the satin over skirt on one side at the front to reveal a hand beaded cob-web in tiny purple seed-beads with Swarovski crystal highlights. I sewed more Swarovski crystals, scattered all over the white satin skirt.

I made Ellie’s net underskirt as a separate item so she could wear the dress and net skirt separately on future occasions. I trimmedeEach layer of the netting is individually with white or orange satin ribbon in different widths.

Ellie wrote: Just a quick note to say thank you for creating my dream dress. Without you I would not have had such a perfect wedding dress. I can’t thank you enough for all your time and effort. This dress will be something I cherish forever. Thank you again Love, Ellie

I also made some ivory ribbon shoe bows, with Swarovski crystals sewn over orange centres to jazz up her understatedly elegant shoes.

Making Ellie’s Purple Halloween Wedding Dress

I always make a ‘toile’, a practice run. To give the impression of the intended shape I made Ellie’s toile, a bodice and skirt with just the net layers and some purple taffeta tucked up over it.

Ellie looks so happy at her final fitting.

As a bespoke bridal designer, it's my job to make sure your dress looks like it's part of you.

For this bride, I designed a dramatic satin dress, with a statement bow and asymmetrical ruching across the front and back of the bodice. A more traditional bodice that might have a lace up back, or simple a concealed zip down the middle, but for this dress I didn't want to break up the flow of the fabric going across the body, so I had to come up with an elegant (and easy to use) solution. Not only did the fastening need to impossible to spot, it also needed to provide support for the bride, so she felt secure in the dress throughout the day.

I created two panels of ruched silk dupion in this beautiful rose gold colour. The panels were secured at the side, not the back, with the top panel being firmly attached with poppers. The panel underneath had hooks and underneath that I made a built in corset behind a heavy-duty zip. Because of the weight of the dress, and how fitted it was, the zip had to work harder than usual, so it was actually very useful to be able to fully hid it. It meant the bride could be fully supported, without the zip interfering with the design.

All that work meant that this bride didn't have to worry about hitching up her dress or any wardrobe malfunctions, she could just focus marrying her husband and having a gorgeous day with friends and family.
