Modern Classic beaded lace and silk georgette wedding dress for Sarah Louise

bride arriving at ceremony fit and flare skirtI made Sarah-Louise’s dress in Ruched silk georgette with a gentle fishtail flare. The lace over-bodice had scalloped edging and a button back.

Official photographs by Sebastian Lomas

The dress was made in two parts, a strapless underdress in ivory silk Georgette (a type of matt finish chiffon) and a removable beaded lace over-bodice. The main dress had a firm, boned bodice with a sweetheart neckline and concealed zip back fastening. It was made with a base of duchess satin, with the silk georgette ruched on the bodice and cascading into the flare of the skirt.

The lace over bodice had a higher neckline finished with a wide scalloped edging, also used on the short, t-shirt type sleeves. The bottom edge of the lace finished just below Sarah-Louise’s natural waistline and was finished with a more subtle scalloped edge. It fastened at the centre back with feature buttons and loops.

thank you letter testimonial

Sarah-Louise wrote: Thank you so much for designing and making me such a beautiful dress that will be shared with generations to come. I am so pleased with the final outcome. I felt like such a beautiful bride and I would have been lost without such an eye catching dress. Thank you so much for all your time and effort spent. Words cannot express how much it means to me.
Lots of love from Sarah-Louise.

I made the dress I am wearing too, in bright printed cotton with fuchsia pink chiffon overlay. It’s made as a breast feeding dress with the front sections unclipping from the straps to reveal a modest inner bodice with feeding access.

One lovely things about the georgette we used as Sarah-Louise’s main fabric was it’s lightness and flow so the dress looked as lovely in motion or still.

How am I supposed to keep tidying, when there's so much sewing to do?

Sometimes I think a messy shop helps my creativity flow better, and sometimes I feel the complete opposite!

Either way, it's an endless battle 😂

Are you the kind of person who needs things to be tidy in order to work, or are you at home in a little bit of mess?
To me, a bride who choses a colourful wedding dress is the kind of person that brightens up a room when they walk into it. They're the kind of person where people around them can't help but smile. And what better way of embodying that than by bringing more colour into your special day?

I don't know about you, but as a seamstress (and generally visual person) I'm big on colour. Just seeing the perfect shade of buttercup yellow, or soothing lavender can lift my spirits and make my day. And if colour can affect mood, then why not set the mood with beautiful, vibrant hues?

I loved adding bold yellows, oranges, reds and purples to bride Megan's pre-bought wedding dress. If you want to see how Megan looked on her wedding day, have a peek at this week's earlier post.

If you're interested in getting your dress dip dyed, or adding a dip dyed overskirt to your wedding outfit, check out my Etsy. You can choose up to 5 colours, in any combination that you can imagine.
Today I wanted to share something that happened in my life, and resisting becoming just another keyboard warrior.

Maybe my story will help you raise your voice too.

I'd love to hear any stories like this that you have. So, if you feel like sharing, please do!
