Floral Pink Plus Size Wedding Dress

custom bespoke Floral Pink Plus Size Wedding Dress flower arch orange cream cerise fuchsia princess bride

โ For her wedding day, Katie wanted a feminine and floaty dress in layers of tulle and floral lace. And what a dress it turned out to be!โ  Itโ€™s such a romantic wedding look, fit for a fantasy princess.
โ
The dress was made from layered silk dupion (one of my favourite fabrics to work with), rose pink tulle and embroidered floral tulle beset with roses. We choose a wide neckline and princess puff sleeves, decorated with an adorably tiny tulle frill. And the back has gorgeous lace up detailing, along with a big, statement bow.โ

And check out that dramatic skirt swoosh!

Making a Floral Pink Plus Size Wedding Dress

This is the original design that I sent to Katie after our initial consultation. As is often the case, throughout the course of the fittings, Katie and I made changes to make sure her dress was completely to her liking. Youโ€™ll notice this especially with the sleeves, which started out as draped tulle and became sweet puff sleeves later one.

The first fitting is where the bride tries of the toile โ€“ a rough draft of the pattern, in an inexpensive material. Itโ€™s to make sure the fit is right and the overall shapes are what weโ€™re aiming for, before I cut into the more expensive fabrics.

During the next fitting we made the decision about changing the sleeve type. And talked about the big, dramatic bow planned. The skirt was cut very full in layers of tulle over silk dupion and, most importantly, it has pockets!โ

And here is the dress during one of the final fittings. I still had a few little things left to sew (hence the pins that you might be able to spot). I also attached clear poppers so that the bow could be attached once the bride had been laced into the corseted bodice.

One of the last details was the embroidered tulle โ€“ hand finished to create a fade up the skirt, giving it a more organic feel. Itโ€™s tiny additions like this that really make a dress feel bespoke.โ

A Dress Fit For a Princess

This is the kind of wedding dress I love to make. It says so much about Katie โ€“ about her whimsy, her love of colour and nature. You can see that she likes fantasy and romance and history. All of that, and more!โ

After I finished making the dress, I realised Iโ€™d been undeniably inspired by the outfits of Penelope Featherington from Bridgerton. I love how much fun the designers from the show clearly had making those costumes. Theyโ€™re fun, exciting and look gorgeous on screen. Especially Penelopeโ€™s. Her style throughout the series is always vibrant and often with floral motifs.

Even though the wedding dress I made doesnโ€™t have many obvious regency elements, I think the spirit of Penelope is still there. And all those words Iโ€™d use to describe Penelope, I would also use to describe the bride, Katie ๐Ÿฅฐ.

This Bridgerton-inspired wedding dress is so versatile!

Of course, underneath everything there first needs to be the proper shapewear to give that Regency pillar silhouette, in the form of stays and a petticoat.
Then along comes this beautiful white and gold duchess satin dress.
And this is where the fun begins...

I created some many different accessories and options for this outfit:

You can add something deeply dramatic, with a period-accurate presentation train. This one is super long and gilded in gold lace.
Or you could go for some detachable puff sleeves, finished with an ornate pearl trim.
Then there's the bow, which can be added on top of the train, or just straight onto the dress, with the long sash-tends working as a sort of mini train.

And of course, the final, and most essential accessory for a look like this: fun, whimsy and a love for the dramatic. It also helps if you're obsessed with this current season of Bridgerton, of course...

Which Bridgerton character can you imagine wearing this bridal look?

If you think this might be the dress for you, it's currently for sale on my Etsy page (๐Ÿ”— in bio) - it's heavily discounted compared to my usual bespoke orders, so claim her whilst you can!
