summer city wedding bridal style crossover coat with collar

Creating a burlesque wedding dress for this fabulous shoot showcases everything I love most about my job. From time to time I collaborate with other wedding professionals on styled wedding photoshoots. This one took place in August 2016 in London with the theme ‘City Burlesque’. Gender bias: Why do we need equal opportunity in upbringing?

My contribution to the gender upbringing debate: I believe the genders should have equal opportunities. I don?t believe the genders are ?the same?, there are differences but these are differences that are evident over wide portions of the population and not to be relied on when comparing two randomly selected individuals. Therefore it is important...

Making the Pheonix ‘Dip-dye’ dress

phoenix dip dye wedding dress made to order

The dip dye dress, called ‘Phoenix’ was first designed and made as a romantic ivory silk and tulle wedding dress for another shoot but was perfect to upcycle as a canvas for the colours of autumn. Sustainability and un-needful waste in the fashion world are causes that run deep in my philosophy so recreating a...

Marilyn Monroe was a size 16… or so they say! The nightmare that is women’s sizing today.

Marilyn Monroe poses in a figure hugging black swimsuit, showing off her hourglass figure

If you have ever despaired of understanding sizing in the shops, rest assured, you are not alone. Why are you a size 14 in one shop and a size 18 in another? Unless, of course, you have just eaten A LOT of cake in a cafe in between the two shops my musings below may...

Of course they did wear other colours too, but white was practical as the clothes and nappies could be bleached. As they grew up styles were chosen?that were...

Styled Shoot ‘City Burlesque’: behind the scenes on a photoshoot day

london eye photoshoot early morning light

The dress needed to have a vintage, showgirl feel and be really sexy but still realistic as a bridal dress, not many people actually get married in a leotard and feathers! The wiggle skirt with a boned bodice hit all these marks showing off our lovely model, Vanessa?s curves and cinching her waist. I added a teal net petticoat that would show when the high/low hem moved and delicate gold lace detail with Swarovski crystals for showgirl glamour!

Traditions: Who’s Wedding is it Anyway?

Mother of the bride admoshing a bride in her dress and veil, 1960's

The story of a mother and daughter So the story I was told (a friend of a friend, you know the sort of thing): A wedding organiser was sitting in a pre-wedding meeting with the Bride and her mother. But it’s a strange thing that the bride is not answering any of the questions, Mum...

Freedom of Dress

woman wearing blue burqua veil

Should we ban balaclavas because a few criminals choose to wear them? People have as much right to wear a bikini without being hassled as a burkha and I will defend their right to that choice.
