I love cultural fusion, so getting to work on this styled shoot was such a pleasure. This real life couple, with Indian bride and British groom, were such a dream to work with too 🥰 (check out the bride`s beautiful tattoos)
This is the first of two outfits I created for the day. I made it from the fabric of two fuchsia pink lehenga. It was important to me to make sure I sourced the pieces from a genuine, Indian seller. You can`t beat the real thing!
I loved stretching my creative muscles to find the perfect blend of traditional Indian and British elements for this dress. And also incorporating modern elements in there as well. A fusion across time as well as geography!

@kathykyle_studio is a local artist who walked into my shop one day and asked me to make her a dress. She`s a textile artist, and she was having a launch party for her latest collection, and wanted something extra special for the occasion.
Kathy makes wearable art. She paints beautiful, intricate designs and has her designs printed onto silk scarves. Her pieces are full of meaningful motifs about feminism, life and so much more.
Making this dress was such a wonderful collaboration. Kathy created a new design (5m x 1.5m in size) to be printed onto fabric, and brought me a vintage pattern she wanted to use. The pattern was actually reversable, with options for both a V-neck and boat neck. It was very cool to see Kathy switching her dress round for each part of her launch day.

For her wedding day, Katie wanted a feminine and floaty wedding dress in layered tulle and floral lace. And what a dress it turned out to be!
The dress was made from layered silk dupion (one of my favourite fabrics to work with), rose pink tulle and embroidered floral tulle. We choose a wide neckline and the classic princess puff sleeves, decorated with an adorably tiny tulle frill. And the back had gorgeous lace up detailing, along with a big, dramatic bow.
The skirt was cut very full in layers of tulle over silk dupion and it has pockets!
And the final touch, was the embroidered tulle - hand appliqued to create a fade up the body.
This is the kind of wedding dress I love to make. It says so much about Katie - about her whimsy, her love for colour and flowers. You can see that she likes fantasy and romance and history.
